McDonald's to raise funds for slain employee's family

Local McDonald's restaurants will raise money next week for the family of an employee killed in an alleged murder.

The McDonald's at 711 E. Seventh St. in Texarkana, Ark., will donate 20% of proceeds Wednesday to the family of employee Jaqualyn Paxton, according to a company news release. Other Texarkana McDonald's locations will have donation boxes
available.

Paxton, 18, was "beloved by customers at the restaurant and known for always smiling," the release stated.

She died of a gunshot wound early Wednesday morning after an altercation in the parking lot of the Village Park South apartments at 2225 East St., according to the Miller County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrested Markelle Demetrice Davis, 19, after he drove away from the scene. Davis is being held in the Miller County Jail on a first-degree murder charge. Bail has been set at $1 million.
