1st Choice gears up for benefit walk/run

1st Choice Pregnancy Resource Center's 20th annual Walk/Run for Life takes place May 4 at Spring Lake Park. Registration for the 5K and 10K races begins at 7 a.m. at Pavilion 1. Both those events start at 8 a.m.

Awards will be given for first through third places for males and females in each age category. There will also be an overall award for a male and female. The cost to register for either of the races is $30 in advance or $35 the day of the event.

The Kids' Fun Run begins at 8:30 a.m. All race awards will be announced at about 9 a.m.

There will be a Diaper Derby at 10 a.m. and the walk begins at 10:30 a.m. There will be bounce houses, and pancakes will be served.

There is no cost for any event other than the races, but participants are encouraged to collect pledges.

All proceeds from the event benefit the services of 1st Choice.

"Funds go directly to client services including free pregnancy testing, limited OB ultrasounds and prenatal and parenting classes where clients can earn car seats, cribs, clothing, diapers and other essentials," said Kristie Wright, 1st Choice executive director.

Event organizers have set a goal of $35,000.
