An oversized transport truck carrying equipment took out the electrical wires that cross Summerhill Road on Thursday morning, causing about a five-hour power outage.

The outage began about 7:30 a.m.

Affected areas included the Texarkana Independent School District Central Office as well as the fire station next door.

"The truck was over the allowable height," said Tina Veal-Gooch, TISD executive director of public relations. "Everything around here was up and running since about 1 p.m. (Thursday)."

A representative from Southwestern Electric Power Company said that power was restored to the location at 12:43 p.m.

"From the TISD central office, we continued to handle standard procedures to the best of our ability while many of our staff moved to other TISD locations with laptops in order to continue work that had to be done, especially during this back-to-school crunch time," Veal-Gooch said.
