City closes Panda's Chinese buffet on New Boston Road

TEXARKANA, Texas - The City of Texarkana closed Panda's Chinese Buffet on July 24.

According to Lisa Thompson, Texarkana, Texas, public information officer, the owners of the property did not file a certificate of occupancy or commercial account inspection. This resulted in the property being closed by the city.

"When someone applies for a 'co' or 'certificate of occupancy', the city then inspects the property to see if it meets regulations for the kind of business they are," Thompson said. "The operator of the business is not the owner of the property. They lease it from the owner. Because of that, the proprietor cannot apply for the 'co'. The owner has to do it. As of Tuesday, there has been no filing of 'co'."

"The business operator did not do anything wrong," she said.

From the notice left on the front door of Panda's, it stated:

- Failure to get commercial account inspection

- Must reschedule within 24 hours or utilities will be disconnected.

- Inspected by K. Lee July 24, 2019.
