TEXARKANA, Texas - Firefighters responded to a house fire just after 10 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of Magnolia and West 27th streets.
"We don't know how it started yet, it is still under investigation," said Chris Black, assistant fire chief for Texarkana, Texas, Fire Department.
"It took us about 20-25 minutes to get it under control. The main room seemed to be the source. It got into the attic a little bit."
Smoke poured out of an attic opening as firefighters went about their task in the hot, humid early day. The muggy conditions were already challenging, especially for firefighters decked out in their protective gear.
Several neighborhood onlookers observed the proceedings.
Debbie Alexander, homeowner, looked on in dismay as the firefighters accomplished their tasks.
"That is my house that caught fire, I own it, but my daughter and her children live there. We called 911 and now we are waiting to find out what happened. I came home straight from work, but I have no insurance on either of my houses."
