TWU makes annual presentation

NEW BOSTON, Texas - Texarkana Water Utilities made a presentation on the 2019 true-up water costs during a meeting Wednesday at Riverbend Water Resources District.

During the annual meeting, TWU showed the actual water costs and usage by the district's original member cities and the projected cost for 2020 for those cities to be able to budget for the upcoming year.

Last year's rate was $.9006 per 1,000 gallons.

The report shows the city of Texarkana, Texas paid a total cost of $3,123,476, which includes water, infrastructure and debt service. Texarkana, Ark. paid a total of $1,532,338.

Costs were also given for the other original cities, which initially paid into construction costs for Wright Patman Lake and the New Boston Road Water Treatment Plant in the 1960s. They include Annona, Avery, DeKalb, Hooks, Maud, New Boston and Wake Village.

Annona's cost was $8,949, Avery's was $22,226, DeKalb paid $83,990, Hooks' cost was $149,754, Maud's was $51,800, New Boston paid $430,333 and Wake Village paid $151,242.

TWU also set the 2020 projected cost as $.9389 per 1,000 gallons, a 4.26% increase from last year.

Riverbend Executive Director/CEO Kyle Dooley said their board of directors will consider the numbers during their next meeting, which is scheduled to be held noon Wednesday at the Riverbend Offices, 228A Texas Ave., New Boston, Texas.

He said the directors will consider the true-up report along with the 2020 budget, but that the true-up and budget would not be finalized until the September meeting.
