TEXARKANA, Ark. - Residents going out to Saturday's Gateway Farmers Market will get a chance to learn about a new way of gardening.

The market will feature a keyhole garden and there will be a demonstration there starting about 9 a.m.

Keyhole gardening, invented in South Africa in the mid-1990s, is self-contained and the demonstration will focus on gardening techniques for growing vegetables, herbs and flowers.

Adults and children are welcome, Davis said.

"The garden's construction allows for a compost bin to be placed within the garden, so as to feed the soil while requiring less water," he said.

Davis further said that the association's mission is to provide community service and educational enrichment for both its members and the general public.

The association is planning to offer gardening training classes Oct. 9, 16, 23, 30 and Nov. 6 and Davis is urging anyone interested enrolling in these classes to come on out and witness the demonstration.
