MURFREESBORO, Ark. - After searching for about an hour during her first visit to Crater of Diamonds State Park, Miranda Hollingshead discovered a 3.72-carat yellow diamond, the biggest found in the park since 2017.

Hollingshead had known about the park for years, not far from her home in Texas, and decided to go with siblings, according to media outlets.

According to Hollingshead, she had learned what she knew about diamond prospecting from watching Youtube videos. In fact, she had been watching one in the shade at the park when she just happened to look down and see her diamond mixed in with other minerals.

Like Josh Lanik from Hebron, Nebraska, park officials believe this find was aided by the plentiful rains in the area in the previous weeks.

"Miranda's diamond is quite unusual a find, a yellow diamond of that size," said Megan Moore, assistant park superintendant.

Relatively new to the park, though having worked in the Arkansas park system going on five years, the wonder of diamond finds
affects her as well.

"Anytime anyone finds any diamond, it is exciting. But one for the record books is always a special day," she said.

Moore loves the idea of prospecting for diamonds, but admittedly hasn't had much time for it.

"I would love to, but I don't spend enough time in the field," she said.

For those coming to look for diamonds, the crater offers other minerals as well.

"Those looking for interesting rocks can find amethys, jasper, quartz and others here," she
said.
