Area Rotary clubs to hold fundraiser Feb. 23

Rotary International's four Texarkana Rotary clubs are hosting a Rotary Foundation Dinner from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 23 at Northridge Country Club.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the eradication of polio worldwide.

Ann Lee Hussey, a polio survivor from South Berwick, Maine, will be the keynote speaker.

Hussey has made the eradication of polio and the alleviation of suffering by polio survivors her life's work. She has participated in 28 volunteer National Immunization Day teams, organizing and leading 24 of those teams herself. She has chosen to take teams to places like Chad, Mali, Bangladesh, Niger, Nigeria, Madagascar, Egypt and India.

She will lead a team to Nigeria in October for her 29th National Immunization Day event. She has shared her story and passion hundreds of times throughout the Rotary world and beyond, raising money and creating new converts to the fight. She is determined that no child will needlessly suffer what she's been through.

The cost of tickets is $50. Attendees will have a choice of chicken piccata or beef filet.

The deadline to register is Feb. 18. Non-rotarians can register by calling Shirley Pinnix-Evans at 903-787-8275. Rotarians can register at Rotary5830.org.
