New Boston nursing home to close

Inspire New Boston, a nursing home in New Boston, Texas, is closing soon.

Texas Health and Human Services oversees voluntary facility closures. According to the THHS website, Inspire, located at 210 Rice St., has a proposed closure date of July 24 or the date the last resident has been discharged.

Taylor Stamp, administrator of the nursing home, said that at the latest the final closing date will be March 26 but that he expects to have all the residents moved before then.

"We already have almost all of our residents out. There are five still here," Stamp said.

At one time the nursing home had more than 50 patients. The facility is licensed for 116 patients, according to THHS.

Stamp declined to disclose the number of employees losing their jobs or the company that bought the nursing home.

New Boston Mayor Johnny Branson said the loss is bad for the city.

"Having a nursing home here has meant a lot to New Boston. When they leave, it hurts because the employees have to go home. Number two, it hurts the community as far as property management because it's a big, old, empty, vacant building. Number three, it hurts because our senior citizens who need that kind of care don't have any place to go, and that's the most important reason," Branson said.

New Boston does have an assisted-living center but not another nursing home. The closest nursing homes to New Boston are in DeKalb or Texarkana.

"We're sorry it's closing. We really hope someone will buy it or pick it up. We'll try everything we can to get a nursing home back here," he said.
