Maryanne Garcia, Texas High School senior art student, has had her work selected to be part of the Texas Arts Education Association Youth Art Month Exhibit. Garcia's art is one of 100 selected from across the state to be part of the display.

The 2019 exhibit will begin with a display at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, running from March 3-17 and continuing from March 24-31 in the Lower Rotunda of the Texas State Capitol Building.

Garcia's art, "Wrapped," is a charcoal on paper portrait media which depicts a person suppressed by society. The bandages which entangle the individual are a symbol for society's physical and verbal attempts in quieting a person's ideas and beliefs. The portrait shows a person who is distraught and is attempting to escape.

Garcia will be honored during the Youth Art Month celebration and reception in Austin on March 10.
