The artwork of Maryanne Garcia, Texas High School senior art student, will be part of the Texas Arts Education Association Youth Art Month Exhibit.
Garcia's art is among 100 pieces selected from across the state to be part of the display.
The 2019 exhibit will begin with a display at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, running from March 3-17 and continuing from March 24-31 in the lower rotunda of the Texas State Capitol Building.
Garcia's art, "Wrapped," is a charcoal-on-paper portrait that depicts a person suppressed by society. The bandages entangling the person symbolize society's physical and verbal attempts to suppress ideas and beliefs. The subject is distraught and is trying to escape.
Garcia will be honored during the Youth Art Month Celebration & Reception on March 10 in Austin.
