Texarkana, Texas, police are investigating circumstance surrounding a Texas-side female pedestrian being fatally struck by a vehicle shortly before 6:20 a.m. Saturday while walking south in the 4000 block of North Kings Highway.
Officers dispatched to the scene found Texas-side resident Samantha Desmarais, age unavailable, suffering from life threatening injuries she suffered as a result of being struck by a southbound gray Jeep Compass sports utility vehicle driven by Jill East, also a Texas-side resident.
Traffic investigators determined that as East's southbound SUV approached the victim from behind and in the left lane, Desmarais, who was walking in the center lane, apparently turned and walked right in front of the SUV's pathway.
Desmarias, who later died at the scene, was also found to be wearing ear buds, causing officers to believe that she many not have been able to hear East's SUV approaching.
