The Hempstead County Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Presbyterian Church in Washington, Ark.
The church is located at the corner of Lawrence and Carroll Streets.
The evening program will be presented by Josh Williams on the history of the church missions set up by the Methodist Church to minister to the slaves before the Civil War in Hempstead County.
"It was from these mission that other denominations trace their roots such as the CME denomination, said Williams.
"The Historical Society seeks to bring awareness to the rich heritage and history of Hempstead County," he said.
