Annual community auction slated for March 2

The eighth annual Ashdown Community Auction, which raises money for local projects, will be March 2 in the Ashdown High School cafeteria.

The Domtar Community Advisory Committee organized the event to raise funds to renovate the city of Ashdown, said Tammy Waters, Domtar communications and government relations manager.

The event has raised $294,000 in the past.

"We will be auctioning off everything from furniture to autographed items. The event offers something for everyone-live, silent, penny and general auctions, as well as a children's activity area and food concessions," Waters said.

The doors will open at 4 p.m. and the auction will begin at 6 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.

"This event is a great way to give back to the local community by raising funds to help with projects at the City Park and in downtown Ashdown. It's amazing to see what a community can accomplish when they pull together for a cause,"
she said.

Childcare will provided and a concession stand will also be available.

"So many items had been donated for the auction that they were too numerous to list. We currently have thousands of dollars' worth of items donated, including guided hunts, guns, TVs, electronics, grills, gift cards and signed sports memorabilia," she said.
