Winners of art show announced

IDABEL, Okla.-The Museum of the Red River revealed the winners of its biennial art competition "Expressions of Youth" Thursday.

The contest was open to artists ages 11 to 19. Contestants could submit two original works in any media. Entries were judged on their technical quality, originality and artistic merit by Chris Powell, associate professor of art at Texas Christian University. All submissions will remain on display until March 3. The winning works are also available online at MuseumOfTheRedRiver.org/exhibits/. The exhibit closes with an awards ceremony at 1 p.m. March 3.

The winners of the "two-dimensional, ages 16 to 19" category are as follows: "Mona Pieca" by Sloan Hickerson (Best of Show); "Equal" by Addie Stephens (First Place); "Flowered-Turtle" by Peter Jinna (Second Place); and "Lonesome Flower" by Alissa Ferrell (Third Place). The winning submissions in "three-dimensional art, ages 16 to 19" category are "Wendigo Sculpture" by Quaed Cox (Best of Show); "Deep Blue Sea" by Sloan Hickerson (First Place); "Frutero" by Ana Adrian (Second Place); and "The Boot" by Timothy Wright (Third Place).

The winners of the "two-dimensional art, ages 11 to 15" category are "Small Village" by Armanda Stewart (Best of Show); "Untitled Work" by Evy Zimmerman (First Place); "The Starry Night" by Raylee Gaston (Second Place); "Lizzy" by Breece Berryhill (Third Place tie); and "Self Portrait" by Lakken Caffey (Third Place tie). The winners of the "three-dimensional, ages 11 to 15" category are "The Fairy" by Jaxie Glasson (Best of Show) and "Beaded Leather Bracelet" by Mia Janelle Reich (First Place).
