Arkansas State Trooper injured in accident on Highway 71

A Troop G Arkansas State Trooper has been injured in a vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 71, according to ASP Capt. Brady Gore.

The accident happened about 1:15 p.m. Thursday in the city limits of Wilton, Ark., in Little River County.

Trooper Clayton McWilliams is being treated at CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital, said Gore.

The accident happened when McWilliams hydroplaned on the way to work an 18-wheeler roll-over accident at U.S. Highway 71 and Highway 27, Gore said. McWilliam's ASP unit struck a tree on the side of Highway 71, Gore said. McWilliams was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated, Gore said.

McWilliams had been working traffic in the area.

An ASP supervisor will investigate the accident, Gore said.

Little River County Sheriff's Office and local fire departments responded to the accident.

ASP Troopers and Little River County Sheriff Bobby Walraven escorted the ambulance to the hospital.
