Forrest Alexander Hutson will be the featured artist at the Art Station Gallery in Hope beginning Tuesday. The show, featuring Hutson's artwork and hand-crafted and painted furniture will be on display from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays.

Hutson, 18, has won more than 100 awards for his art and and original furniture designs in county, regional and state contests.

A self-taught artist, Hutson started off drawing cartoon figures but quickly advanced into a wide range of subjects, including still-life paintings, portraits and religious illustrations and paintings. His hand-painted folding chairs and table designs made from a variety of materials (metal, glass and recyclables) are all unique.

"Alex is an amazing artist with the ability to create artwork that 'speaks' to a wide audience. Art in any form is appreciated by individuals on their level of what they like or do not necessarily understand," said Tamara Read, gallery chairwoman. "With Alex's work, if you do not embrace one painting on a personal level, the next one will be something you absolutely love."

Read said due to his affection for DC and Marvel comic book characters and super heroes, the exhibit will be of interest to children of all ages.

Hutson, an Eagle Scout, is a senior at Hope High School; he also has as certificate in welding from the University of Arkansas Community College, Hope-Texarkana, and he will graduate in May with a certificate in industrial maintenance.

A private showing for SWAAC members and guests is set for Monday. Persons interesting in joining can contact the SWAAC at 870-777-8200.
