LifeShare Blood Center has moved to a new location at 4020 Summerhill Road for blood donations. The administrative offices will remain at the old location at 1321 College Drive.
Center officials are hopeful the new location will encourage more people to donate blood.
"We moved to get more room and it's a more convenient location for our donors because it's on Summerhill Road. It's also more visible," said Elizabeth Cunningham, regional director for LifeShare.
The donation center, located across from Texas High School in Summerhill Plaza, is 2,315 square feet and has seven beds for blood donors.
LifeShare has been working toward the move for while.
"We've been waiting for this for five years," Cunningham said.
The center, which supplies blood to local hospitals, is still experiencing a critical need for donors.
"We've started having blood drives at the high schools but we're still critically low right now so we need donors," she said.
Monday was the first day open at the new center.
LifeShare is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. Walk-in donors are welcome. For more information, call 903-793-3173.
