United Way to take trip to Egypt, invites everyone

The United Way of Greater Texarkana's is taking a trip to Egypt Sept. 13 through Sept. 22 and everyone is invited.

Highlights of the trip will include the pyramids of Giza, Karnak and Luxor temples, Tutankhamen's tomb, the Valley of the Kinds and a cruise on the Nile River.

"We like to see 50 or 60 people go on this trip," said Mark Bledsoe, United Way president/CEO. "We've had a lot of people who took earlier trips with us ask about this one. They don't have to be from here in Texarkana. They can join us from any part of the U.S. but the price being offered is for flights out of DFW."

"This will be an exciting trip. Outside of Cairo there have been a couple of new archeological finds and there was a huge museum just completed and we'll be going through it," Bledsoe said.

The early bird price for the trip is $3,499 if booked by March 29. The price goes up after that.

That includes all the travel and some of the meals.

The United Way will have an informative meeting at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at Texarkana College in Levi Hall.

Bledsoe hopes to the trip will be a successful fundraiser for the United Way.

"If we can raise $10,000 to $12,000 that would be fine. In previous times when we've had more than 100 people go, we raised about $35,000. It's great for us. We've picked up some United Way supporters by doing this trip as well. It is an opportunity for us to talk about the United Way and what we're doing in the community," Bledsoe said.
