TASD to consider bids, contract regarding new school

Texarkana, Ark., School District's Board of Education will meet at 5:30 p.m. today to consider bids and a contract for the construction manager for the new middle school project.

The board will also consider the construction manager contract with Clark Contractors of Little Rock for the new middle school project. They chose to use Clark during the October 2018 meeting.

The new school will be built on a 31.743-acre tract of land north of Interstate 30 between Jefferson Avenue and Crossroads Parkway. The district purchased the land from Wommack 6 Corp. for $955,816.50. Funds for the new building come from a bond restructure voters approved in October 2017. The move generated $20 million for the new school.

Also, the board will consider bids for awnings at North Heights Junior High School to cover three sidewalk areas. Bids were received from Richardson Fence and Patio, Texarkana Tent and Awning and RBT Construction-Roofing. Funds for the project will come from the $14.8 million Magnet Schools Assistance Program Grant the district received from the U.S. Department of Education in 2017. The grant will continue the science, technology, engineering and math thread from the elementary to the middle and high school levels. Called the Montage Project, the grant is one of 32 the department of education gave to schools nationwide.

Members will also consider a bid for a large color image press/printer to be used for the grant. One bid from Office Equipment of Texarkana was received for the machine, which will be used to develop marketing materials related to the magnet grant.

The meeting will be held at the TASD Administration Building, 3435 Jefferson Ave., Texarkana, Ark.
