Area faces forecast of freezing rain, road hazards

Light freezing rain and drizzle could be possible early today.

The hazardous weather outlook is for Bowie and Miller counties along with Sevier, Howard, Little River, Hempstead, Nevada and Lafayette counties in Southwest Arkansas and Cass, Red River and Titus in Northeast Texas.

Rain was expected to become more widespread, increasing in coverage and intensity by early Tuesday evening, according to National Weather Service. Temperatures were expected to fall to just below freezing, then transition to a light freezing drizzle during the overnight and early morning hours today.

A low of 28 is expected in Texarkana, with a low of 27 in some areas north of Interstate 30.

The freezing drizzle may lead to a few icy spots on elevated roadways, such as bridges and overpasses.

Any freezing rain should end by late morning as temperatures warm above freezing.

Rain will be possible again during the weekend and into early next week.

There is also the chance for more light wintry precipitation late Monday night.
