Arkansas-side police receive accreditation from state group

The Texarkana Ark., Police Department received its accreditation from a state police organization at Tuesday's city Board of Directors meeting.

The regular meeting was moved from Monday because of the holiday. It was held at City Hall, 216 Walnut St.

Arkansas Law Enforcement Accreditation Program Board of Directors Member J.R. Wilson, who is Chief of Police in Hope, Ark., presented accreditation to Police Chief Bob Harrison and Mayor Allen Brown after a brief presentation.

"You should be proud of your department.

"This is a bottom-to-top program to assure your guys are safe and following good procedures," Wilson said.

TAPD joins 13 other departments in the state of Arkansas that are ALEAP certified.

These standards were carefully developed by ALEAP to assist agencies in the efficient delivery of police services and the protection of citizens the departments serve.

Harrison said it took the department about 18 months to prepare for accreditation. He credits former Miller County Sheriff Ron Stovall for his help.

"It took a lot of hands on deck," Harrison said.

John and Julie Ray Harrison with Partnership for the Pathway also updated the board on donations to help build sidewalks and trails in the city.

The Run The Line half-marathon is Feb.17 and is the major fundraiser for Partnership for the Pathway.

No regular action items were scheduled for the meeting.
