A 22-month-old boy died in a Texarkana, Texas, house fire Wednesday morning on Meadows Drive.

Texas-side Fire Chief Eric Schlotter confirmed the death of the child. The fire is under investigation but officials believe the fire was caused by a bad plug on a fan in the child's room, Texarkana, Texas Police Spokesman Shawn Vaughn said late Wednesday. The child was in a crib in the room where the fire started.

One adult and six children, including the boy, were inside the house at the time of the fire, Vaughn said. None of the other children were in the room where the fire started, Vaughn said.

The fire at 3011 Meadows Drive was called in at 11:19 a.m. and the fire department arrived on scene at 11:22 a.m., Vaughn said.

Smoke was coming from the house at that time. The 911 calls came from the adult in the house and people passing by, Vaughn said.

The boy's body will be sent to a medical examiner in Dallas for autopsy.

A small dog was rescued from the home by firefighters.

Meadows Drive is located off of Baylor Street and runs parallel to Old Boston Road.

The death is the first fire fatality in Texarkana, Texas, in two or three years, according to Vaughn.
