New local ladies' boutique has its grand opening Saturday

Small boutique 2 Lady Bugs, which has its grand opening Saturday, features various items to deck out the fashionably inclined woman.

Rita Martinez, the owner and proprietor, describes her shop as literally a dream come true.

"My mother always called me her 'lady bug'," said Martinez. "After she passed away (in 2010), all the girls (me, my sister and nieces) got lady bug tattoos."

Martinez described a dream about a boutique called 2 Lady Bugs, one that kept returning.

"It was literally a dream," she said, " and it didn't just happen once. It repeated itself many nights for a very long time. It never left me. I knew this was something I had to do."

After a career of working at Red River Army Depot, upon retirement, she found she had the resources and time to make this dream come true.

"We have a rental house, a one-bedroom on our property, so when I decided to do this, my husband redid the interior to make it more suitable to being a boutique."

The two of them reworked and redecorated the place, an effort that began December, 2018. What started out as a dream 49 years ago now has become a reality that has opened its doors to a waiting public.

"The sort of things we stock, one previously had to go as far afield as Dallas to get, but now, you just have to come to King's Highway and we do the rest," she said. "We also do a bit of custom items, with a bit of leather work as well as jewel work. Come see us!"

2 Lady Bugs is located at 503 N. Kings Highway. Call them at 903-559-5122 or visit their Facebook page.
