The city of Texarkana, Texas, announced Monday that renovations to the Hotel Grim will begin in early fall.

The project manager of the Hotel Grim's rehabilitation is accepting bids for hazardous materials abatement in the building.

In a notice published Sunday in the Texarkana Gazette, Construction Technologies requested sealed bids for the removal of asbestos, lead and mold pathogen from the Grim.

The request is the latest sign that after a years-long process of securing financing for the project, work could finally begin soon. But a mid-July deadline for the proposals precludes work beginning this month, as developer Cohen-Esrey Group recently said was possible.

Proposals are due by 2 p.m. July 15 in the offices of the Texarkana, Texas, Planning and Community Development Department, fourth floor of City Hall, 220 Texas Blvd. Staff will publicly open the proposals and read them aloud at that time in City Hall's second-floor conference room. Late proposals will not be accepted.

A mandatory pre-proposal conference is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday in the second-floor conference room. A walk-through of the project site will follow.
