PGISD board slated to discuss elementary school construction today

Pleasant Grove Independent School District's Board of Trustees will meet at noon today to consider several items related to the construction of the new elementary school.

The agenda items include employing testing and inspection services, an engineering and survey firm and construction of a fence around the site. Trustees will also consider a construction manager at risk for the project.

Funds for the new school come from a $19.9 million bond voters approved in May 2018 for not only the school, but for security and technology upgrades. Plans for the school were approved in January.

Designed by Lewis Architects in Little Rock, the 70,000-square-foot building will include a gym, cafeteria, 33 classrooms, offices, special education space and a media center. It will be located on a 12-acre tract of land at Galleria Oaks and Christus Drives.

The district acquired the land from CHRISTUS Ark-la-Tex Health through a definitive exchange agreement which included the swap of the property for a 4.35-acre tract owned by the district.

The meeting will be held in the Central Services, 8500 North Kings Highway, Texarkana, Texas.
