NEW BOSTON, Texas —The Three Bostons Museum will hold a fundraiser at 10 a.m. today on the museum's second floor, featuring former New Boston High School Athlete Sid Garton.
Garton, a New Boston High School Class of 1958 graduate, set a new Guinness Book of World Records by running the 220-yard dash in less than 20 seconds in 1960 while attending East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas (now Texas A&M University-Commerce).
Garton will be on the museum's second floor selling autographed copies of his most recently published new book "The Untold Story—One Stride Ahead in 1958 And Just That Close in 1960."
Stuart Kantor, executive director the Texas State Track and Field Hall of Fame in Dallas, co-wrote the book with Garton. Garton is scheduled to be inducted in that Hall of Fame in January 2020.
A portion of the book's proceeds will be donated to the museum.
Garton, now 80, said Thursday that he's been working on the book off and on for about the last 10 years.
