Arkansas-side Mayor Allen L. Brown said that medical marijuana should be available for sale in the next few weeks.

"We will have two dispensaries on the Arkansas-side, the one located at the former Electric Cowboy and the other at Vincent's Fine Wine and Liquor. Sales will be heavily regulated, but we still expect them to be revenue generators," he said Tuesday while speaking to the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce.

Brown said no citizens have expressed concern to the city government as of yet. But he did indicate both revenue generation and currency handling around these businesses due to regulations and existing laws could be complicated.

"The medical marijuana is a new thing, heavily regulated and mandated. We will see what we see when things get started. There will be an education process," he said.

In other news, Brown mentioned he welcomed the opening of the new FedEx Center at the end of the week, as well as a busy May in general.

"May is Arkansas Tourism Month," he said.

Mayor Bob Bruggeman of Texarkana, Texas, said that May would be the last month before the summer that the Texas-side City Council holds two meetings.

"Going into the summer months, we will be on the summer calendar, with only one meeting a month, starting in June," he said.
