Miller County Quorum Court approves appropriating funds to AR-TX REDI

Miller County Justices of the Peace unanimously approved to appropriate $15,000 to the AR-TX REDI organization a brief presentation from the REDI president Monday night.

AR-TX REDI is a new nonprofit organization that aims to create jobs and expand the regional economy in Southwest Arkansas and Northeast Texas.

"The Miller County Quorum Court supports the REDI Group in its efforts for economic development in Miller County and the surrounding area," said the ordinance.

Robert Sitterley, the organization's first President and CEO spoke briefly to the quorum court after he was introduced by Dean Barry. REDI is all about the recruitment of jobs and building a tax base for the area, Sitterley said.

"People here have been very supportive and welcoming," Sitterley said.

Barry said REDI was formed "to bring jobs to Texarkana and Miller and Bowie counties."

The organization consists of several area leaders including mayors and county judges.

"There is not one person in our group who has a selfish interest. It's about Texarkana," he said.

In other business, JP's approved appropriating $80,000 from the capital improvement fund for the purchase of a new 911 system.

The county's 911 system went out in November of last year. On Dec. 4, the county was given an old 911 system from Garland County to be used until it can be replaced. However, Miller County officials cannot use the mapping part of the system because it does not contain Miller County maps.

Members of the Miller County Personnel Committee also reviewed the county's policy manual in a meeting that preceded the quorum court meeting. Committee members discussed overtime and comp pay for county employees.
