NEW BOSTON, Texas - Bowie County Commissioners received some good news Monday regarding the release of an independent annual financial audit report focusing on the county's last fiscal year.

Auditors with the Austin-based Patillo, Brown and Hill accounting firm, told the Commissioners Court that the county's fiscal Year 2018 audit showed that the county brought in an additional $1.3 million to the county's overall fund balance. The addition now leaves the county with an overall $14.4 million in its fund balance.

Over the last four years, the county's fund balance has risen from about $3.8 million in 2014 to about $14.4 now.

Bowie County Auditor William Tye said the county continues to look financially healthy as this year proceeds.

In other business, commissioners agreed to permit the county to start advertising for bids to repair and replace concrete sidewalk and walkway areas along with the courthouse' front and entrance points.

The court spoke about the overall concrete work involved as possibly costing more than $50,000.
