Registration is open for the Strikes for Scholars Charity Bowling Tournament to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holiday Bowl, 3408 N. State Line in Texarkana.
Proceeds will benefit the Grace Fort Gouldsby Scholarship Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, which funds college scholarship awards to area high school seniors.
The foundation is named for Grace Lee Fort Gouldsby, who was born in 1923 in Bowie County, Texas, and attended Hooks public schools. She graduated in 1941 and entered Bishop College in 1942, from which she graduated in 1946 with a bachelor's degree. She did graduate work at Prairie View A&M University and East Texas State University, Commerce, Texas.
Gouldsby began her teaching career at Center Point Boarding High School in Pittsburg, Texas. During the various stages of her teaching career, in the segregated school system and after integration, she taught elementary, junior high and high school students. Her family established the foundation when she retired in 1989.
Registration is $200 per team and available at gfgsf.org. Prizes will be awarded for two divisions of bowlers, including a Purse division with an opportunity to win $1,500. For more information, call Duane Hicks at 972-978-2040.
