Texarkana Ark., School District recognized campus volunteers during a reception Thursday and gave Junior Tipton their highest award, the Jack Hardy Award.

Tipton has been active in the Arkansas High School Band Booster Club and he and his wife have ridden on a band bus to each band competition and football game for two years, according to his nomination letter.

"He has been a tremendous ambassador for the band and TASD in and around Texarkana," TASD Superintendent Dr. Becky Kesler said. "He makes our school district look great and is fast to tell everyone what a great education both his daughters receive at AHS."

Tipton said he was honored to receive the Jack Hardy award.

"I never thought I would be in this position," he said. "I started out volunteering with the band club so I could spend more time with my girls. I didn't realize at the time that I would acquire a family of band directors, administrators and principals. I would like to thank Dr. Kesler, the school board and the rest of the administration for this award."

Tipton also thanked them for all the improvements made to the band during the 2018-19 school year, including new instruments. He said the band had reached great accomplishments during the year and many students also received college band scholarships.

"Without their support this wouldn't be possible," he said.

Kelser also thanked the Campus Volunteers of the Year and the recipients of the Superintendent's Award and the Principal's Awards.

"I don't think you know the impact you have on our students and staff and we are extremely grateful for your time," she said.
