The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana (UAHT) welcomed 1,563 students to the Hope and Texarkana campuses last semester.

This increase in enrollment set the record for the highest enrollment in the 53-year history of the college. The previous record of 1,557 students was set in fall 2010. The college has experienced a steady rise in enrollment over the past five years with an increase of 15% from fall 2014.

"A major factor in the growth of our college is the addition of the Texarkana campus in 2012. In fall 2011, eighty-five students from Miller County attended classes on our campus. That number has grown to 543 students from Miller County and 102 students from Bowie County attending classes at UAHT. The citizens of the Texarkana region are integral to the mission of our college, and it is critical that we are as accessible as possible to them on both the Hope and Texarkana campuses," said Chris Thomason, Chancellor.

UAHT has experienced consistent growth despite downward trends in enrollment statewide.

According to the Arkansas Department of Higher Education, only three of the twenty-two 2-year colleges in Arkansas experienced positive 5-year growth. This growth moved UAHT from number nineteen in unduplicated headcount among twenty-two Arkansas 2-year colleges in 2007 to number nine.

"What makes this growth in enrollment extraordinary is that it has happened in an economy with a lower unemployment rate than in 2010 and UAHT has been graduating students at historic levels," said Thomason.

While the enrollment growth at the college has been at the top in the State, UAHT is also graduating students in record numbers. The number of unduplicated graduates at the college has risen each year over the past five years. The number of graduates has increased by 69% from 2014, and the total number of degrees and certificates awarded have also risen with a 52% increase from 2014.

"Making it a priority to help our students graduate has resulted in UAHT awarding 3,243 degrees and certificates in the last five years and has helped our campus finish second among all of the twenty-two Arkansas colleges in the Department of Higher Education's performance funding model outcomes," said Thomason.
