The Texarkana Chamber of Commerce is organizing the first Cash Mob, similar to a flash mob, where social media users use the medium to organize a song-and-dance number at a certain location. This will be a "support your local business" event.

"The exact business will be revealed at the last minute, but the event takes place at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the corner of Olive and Broad Street, downtown Texarkana," said Hannah Wren, chamber director of partner development.

"Everyone is welcome to participate and is asked to spend $10 to $20 at the business in question. Coupons will also be available for future purchases," she said.

"We are doing it to give an economic boost for the community and support chamber businesses. This is just the first Cash Mob; the coming ones and frequency to be announced," Wren said.

In other chamber news, the Texas Department of Transportation has scheduled an open house to seek public input on the Summerhill Road expansion. The section of Summerhill Road to be expanded runs from University Avenue to just north of North Park Road. The event takes place at 5:30 p.m. June 6 at First Baptist Church, 3015 Moores Lane.

A joint city meeting takes place 3 p.m. June 11 at the Cog Building on Elizabeth Street. The resurfacing of State Line Avenue will be discussed. Engineers from both Texas and Arkansas will be present to answer questions.
