Local voter turnout light

BOWIE COUNTY, Texas, and MILLER COUNTY, Ark. - There was little local participation in Tuesday's elections, which featured school board races and 10 amendments to the Texas constitution.

In Bowie County, Texas, 6,980 of 58,178 registered voters cast a ballot, a rate of 11.89%, according to the Secretary of State's website.

In Fouke, Arkansas, 246 of 3,097 registered voters - 7.94% - participated, according to figures provided by the county election coordinator.

With only two uncontested school board races at stake and only early or absentee ballots counted, the turnout rate in Texarkana, Arkansas, was minuscule. Of the city's 16,773 registered voters, 38 cast ballots, a rate of 0.23%.
