University Toastmasters to host open house meeting

TEXARKANA, Texas - University Toastmasters invites residents to its open house to meet members, enjoy snacks and watch special guest speaker Cindy Elkins talk about the importance of communication skills for today's professional.

The open house will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, at the St. James Episcopal Church Parish Center, 417 Olive St. in Texarkana, Texas.

"University Toastmasters provides a supportive and positive environment where members have the opportunity to develop their communication and leadership skills," says Elkins, president for Toastmasters club No. 7036. In addition to the featured speaker, members and guests will enjoy a regular Toastmasters meeting that will include a prepared speech, an evaluation and Table Topics - impromptu speeches.

"Table Topics are one of my favorite parts of the meeting," says Haley Patillo, vice president of Membership.

"This is where guests and members are randomly selected to speak for one to two minutes. It helps you think and speak clearly on your feet."

Toastmasters club No. 7036 meets each Monday at 6:30 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church.
