Flake news | Snow flurries are possible Tuesday

There is a slight chance early Tuesday for the first snow flurries of the season.

A strong cold front moving into the area Monday could bring the winter precipitation to areas north of Interstate 30, according to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, La. No accumulation is expected.

The front is expected to arrive with another round of widespread showers and possibly a few thunderstorms as it pushes through the area. There is a slight chance of a few flurries as the precipitation ends on Tuesday morning but no accumulations are expected, according to the NWS.

Tuesday's low is predicted to be about 23 degrees in Texarkana and 21 degrees in some areas north of I-30, according to the NWS.

The hazardous weather outlook is for the counties of Sevier, Howard, Little River, Hempstead, Nevada, Miller and Lafayette counties in Southwest Arkansas and Bowie, Cass, Titus and Morris counties in Northeast Texas.

Subfreezing temperatures will return to all of Northeast Texas and Southwest Arkansas, with the coldest air of the season expected for Tuesday night.

The NWS advises residents take care of their pets, plants and pipes in anticipation of the cold weather.

A winter outlook for December through February that was recently released by the Climate Prediction Center shows above-average temperatures for much of the country.

No part of the U.S. is favored to have below-average temperatures this winter.

Drier-than-average conditions are also most likely for parts of Texas and Arkansas.

NOAA's Climate Prediction Center updates the three-month outlook each month. The next update will be available Nov. 21.
