Main Street reveals '19 holiday ornament

This year's Main Street Texarkana ornament has just shipped from the artisan and is on the way to collectors for those who appreciate Texarkana's history and are looking for a unique holiday gift.

"It is going to be the Regency House, a downtown landmark building which has featured much of the business and cultural history," said Ina McDowell, Main Street Texarkana executive director.

"Regency House was where the first Dillard's department store in Texarkana was located. That was also where the O'Dwyer-Ahern business was located."

The building has seen better days. This year, its interior structure collapsed and the city plans to clear the location.

"For the sites we pick to render as ornaments, we do take suggestions," McDowell said. "Once we figure out which location will be highlighted for the year, we obtain vintage photos and get them to our craftsman."

The ornaments have been produced for several years now and some of the back issues are still available for those who want to get some previous releases.

"You can get previous ornaments at Pleasant Grove Pharmacy and at the Main Street Texarkana office at the Chamber of Commerce," McDowell said. "You can get the new one there as well."

The new ornament, which will cost $15, will also be at Fanfare Gifts as well as Benchmark American Brasserie. It will be available sometime next week, just in time for holiday shopping. It will cost $15.
