With the day's temperature taken a decided turn for the cooler, reflecting the season, Texarkanians look about for signs of the coming holidays.

Halloween is just around the corner, but even this early, the pending Yuletide is sending out hints of good tidings to come. Such was the case at October's Main Street Texarkana meeting, where Ina McDowell, Main Street executive director, revealed to the board this year's Main Street Texarkana ornament.

"This is the downtown Dillards/Odwyer-Aherne building frontage," McDowell said.

This is the latest in the series of Main Street Texarkana Christmas ornaments showing images of Texarkana's historic heritage, a series that has been going on for a number of years. The release date of the ornament will be announced in time.

In other news, the board was satisfied with the results from this year's Dine On The Line event. The monetary intake was still being calculated, but the rest of the events was deemed a success.

"We were pleased with the attendance level, getting near or at our set level of 325 reservations," said McDowell.

"We received grand compliments about the music, the featured act, Chasing Rita," said Larry White, board president. "It was good, conversational music, not drowning out people talking."

"Things went smoothly, the music, the food," said McDowell. "All of our sponsors, volunteers, board members as well as downtown restaurants and Farmer's Markets. We also appreciate Four States Fair Fermentors along with Pecan Point for their wonderful craft beers."

In other Main Street news, three more planters are coming to downtown Texarkana. They will be placed on West Broad Street, on the Texas-side.

"They sure are beautiful," said board member Dr. Beverly Rowe.
