TEXARKANA, Texas - Texarkana Water Utilities customers whose water bills were due Monday may have paid an incorrect amount because of a computer-related printing error.

Paper bills for those customers on one page showed balances due that were lower than the actual amount due. A mistake by TWU's information technology staff caused this month's balance due to be reduced by the amount of the previous month's bill, said Tricia Briggs, TWU's customer service, accounting and human resources manager.

The incorrect balance appears on the front of paper bills, but the correct amount appears on the back. Balances available online or through the TWU phone system are correct, as are automatic bank draft payments.

Only Texas-side customers whose bills were due Monday are affected. TWU has had heavy call volume regarding the issue, Briggs said.

Any unpaid balance from this month will roll over to next month's bill, but TWU will not charge any late fees and will work out payment plans with customers if need be.

TWU has instituted new processes to ensure the mistake will not recur, Briggs said.
