Annual Komen Race for the Cure is today

The 21st annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure takes place at 9 a.m. today beginning at the Front Street Plaza in downtown Texarkana. Thousands are expected to participate in the event, which raises money for breast cancer treatment and research. The race day schedule and parking information are provided below.

Race Day Schedule:

7 a.m. to 8 a.m. - Late registration/packet pick up

7 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. - Top team fundraisers and sponsors will be treated to breakfast.

7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. - Team pictures

8:30 a.m. - Survivor picture and opening ceremonies

9 a.m. - 5K run/walk. Competitive runners begin at the front and all other participants will start behind them. The start and finish line is on Front Street.

10:30 a.m. - Closing ceremonies take place at the Front Street stage and the team awards will be given out.

10:30 a.m. - Survivor brunch/closing ceremonies take place at Beech Street Baptist Church. Survivors and bring one guest each.

Parking and shuttle information:

Parking is limited in downtown Texarkana and streets will close at 8:30 a.m. There are a limited number of handicapped-accessible spaces available on Broad Street and between Wood and Olive streets.

Park and Ride will be available from:

Razorback Stadium.

Wadley parking lots on Texas Boulevard and the Professional Office Building lots.

Beech Street Baptist Church, St. Edward Catholic Church and First United Methodist Church.

Survivor parking will be available in the Regions Bank Building parking lot.
