Tyler campground to open laser tag course this week

The Jellystone Park at Whispering Pines in Tyler, Texas, plans to open its new laser tag game on Thursday, according to park co-owner Don Tardy.

The laser tag course is just under an acre and can accommodate up to 20 players. It is available only to Jellystone Park guests, according to officials.

"We've had a lot of interest in this, so we're eager to have the game up and running for our guests to enjoy," said Tardy, who bought the campground four years ago with his wife, Jan, and her two adult children, Colt Perrin and Bree Perrin.

Tardy said this summer has been their busiest yet, largely because they have invested more than $1 million in new games and other improvements to the campground during the past three years, including an 18-hole miniature golf course.

Park activities include arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, face painting, a jumping pillow, gem mining, evening campfires and tuck-ins with the bears, a press release states. The themed weekends are scheduled from March through October and range from family athletic competitions to Christmas in July.

Other recent improvements at the campground include new poolside restrooms, the installation of four loft rental cabins and new horseshoe and washer pits.
