Even though Texarkana Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee Chairman Dennis Lewis still has nearly five years to serve on the Texas Military Preparedness Commission, the chamber may soon have to look for someone else.

Earlier this month, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott reappointed Lewis to the Texas Military Preparedness Commission for another term.

Lewis will continue serving on the commission until Feb. 1, 2021.

Lewis told chamber board members, during their regular monthly meeting Tuesday, that 2021 will be here sooner then expected-in addition to the possibility that Texas may have a new governor by then, who would like to put his or her own people in place.

Lewis then asked board members to start thinking of someone they would like to see serve on the commission after his term expires.

Besides serving on the commission, Lewis also currently serves as military adviser and liaison to Red River Army Depot.

He previously served as director for business management and as Base Relocation and Closure Transition coordinator at RRAD.

In other business, Lewis told board members that the depot will have a new commander in six weeks.
