Texas man gets 20 years for shooting mail carrier

SAN ANTONIO-A man convicted of shooting a South Texas mail carrier, stealing her delivery vehicle and firing at officers pursuing him must serve 20 years in federal prison.

Bradley Ahearn was sentenced Thursday in San Antonio for the 2017 attack on a rural mail carrier in Spring Branch during a robbery. The 24-year-old Ahearn in February pleaded guilty to charges related to carjacking, robbery and assault.

Prosecutors say Ahearn shot the victim in both legs while stealing her personal pickup truck.

Law officers twice, in the days following the Feb. 11, 2017, attack, located Ahearn and tried to arrest him but he opened fire while fleeing. He was eventually captured in San Antonio.

Prosecutors say some mail, meant for delivery in the Spring Branch area, was recovered from a motel room.
