Man shooting shotgun in park killed by police

DILLEY, Texas-Texas Rangers are investigating the fatal shooting of a man by police at a South Texas park.

Authorities say the man was firing a shotgun at a public park in Dilley when he was shot and killed by officers in the city about 70 miles (112.65 kilometers) southwest of San Antonio.

City administrator Rudy Alvarez says the officers followed procedures and fired in self-defense during a confrontation as the man pulled a modified shotgun from his pants. Alvarez believes the shooting Friday may be the first involving a Dilley police officer. Both officers are on administrative leave pending the completion of the investigation.

Relatives have identified the victim as Juan Luna, who they say would have turned 26 Saturday.
