Trooper injured in hit-and-run wreck near Houston

SUGAR LAND, Texas-A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper is in stable condition after being injured in a hit-and-run collision in a Houston suburb.

Authorities say the trooper had stopped a driver during a traffic stop around 1 a.m. Wednesday when he was struck by a passing vehicle on U.S. Highway 59 in Sugar Land.

DPS officials say the driver of the vehicle that hit the trooper then fled the scene.

The trooper, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to a Houston hospital.

The driver, who was not immediately identified, was later stopped by authorities and arrested.
