Tornado leaves heavy damage, power outages in its wake after moving through Dallas

DALLAS - A tornado moved through Dallas Sunday night after it was first reported in the Love Field area and moved east, leaving heavy damage and debris in its wake.

No tornado warnings were still in effect as of 10:36 p.m., but severe storms that could bring strong winds and hail were still moving through Dallas County, as well as Collin, Hunt and Kaufman counties, according to the National Weather Service.

More than 68,000 people were without power Sunday night, according to Oncor.

Dramatic social media video showed a large funnel cloud over the city as the tornado moved through.

Dallas Fire-Rescue crews were responding to a structural collapse in northwest Dallas, at Walnut Hill Lane and Harry Hines Boulevard. A building had collapsed, power lines were down in the street and a car was on its side after the tornado moved through.

At Walnut Hill Lane and Monroe Drive, buildings were flattened. At least 20 fire trucks were at the scene.

At U.S. 75 and Royal Lane, tree limbs were on the highway and road signs had been flipped over.

Mary Ann Sigel, who lives off of Royal Lane, had no power Sunday night and her lawn was scattered with tree limbs.

"It was weird. I heard hail for a few seconds and then a loud boom," she said. "It only lasted for a few minutes and then it was over."

Several blocks in far north Dallas County were without power and fallen tree limbs were scattered through the area.

The National Weather Service said a possible tornado was moving toward Ferris in Ellis County about 9:50 p.m.
