JAMES GILLIAM SR.

DeKALB, Texas—James VanBerlyn Gilliam Sr., 69, of New Boston, Texas, died Saturday, May 21, 2016, in a Texarkana, Texas, hospital. Mr. Gilliam was born June 19, 1946, in Los Angeles. He was retired from Red River Army Depot and a Vietnam War Army veteran. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, James V. Gilliam Jr. and Juanita Cartwright of New Boston and Ronnie and Michele Scott of Tyler, Texas; five grandchildren, Kaylee Gilliam, Breanna Scott, Curklynn Scott, Jordan Scott and Kirby Scott; four great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Bates Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in Liberty Hill Cemetery. Online registration is atbatesfamilyfuneralhome.com.
