George Hughes Jr. of T or C New Mexico died on September 17, 2016 at Del Sol Medical Center in El Paso. George was born on January 11, 1944 in Texarkana, Texas to George Hughes and Ruby Lee Cloud Hughes. George worked as a Railroad Conductor for 41 years before retiring. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and American Legion. George loved exploring the mountains and traveling the United States. George is survived by his wife, Melinda Bales Hughes; son Chris Hughes and wife Ina of Redwater, Texas; daughter, Jerita Batchelor-Jordan and husband, Steve of Karnack, Texas; son Greg Hughes and wife Barbara of Texarkana, Arkansas. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Justus and Jerica Batchelor, Joseph, Patrick, Steven and Matthew Hughes and great-grandchildren, Braiden, Brookelie, Stetson, Cameron, Sierra and Zoey. He is also survived by his sisters, Emogene Ruple and husband Al of Little Rock, Arkansas and Shirley Jaekne and husband, Lyle of Beaver Dam Wisconsin, and brother Jerry Hughes and wife, Deborah of Sentinel, Oklahoma. Remembering him fondly are numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and his extended family in Mississippi. George was preceded in death by his parents and brothers James David Hughes and Kenneth Charles Hughes. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, please make monetary donations in George's memory to one of the following charities: Boys Town (boystown.org), Veterans of Foreign Wars (vfw.org) or St. Joseph's Indian School (stjo.org). George was buried in Caballo Cemetery in Caballo New Mexico on September 22, 2016. The family will have a local memorial at Redwater Community Park and Sports Complex on October 01, 2016 at 11AM. The park is located just past Redwater ISD on FM 991 on the right. Bring lawn chairs if you wish to sit.
